This weekend Splatoon 2 is doing a test fire for anyone with a Nintendo Switch at specific times throughout the weekend for an hour at a time. I was able to play a couple multiplayer games and so far the game is pretty much what you would expect from Splatoon. The matchmaking was fairly quick, I had a search time out on me once but other than that it didn’t take more than a few seconds to get into a game. There weren’t any other features available in the testfire for multiplayer other than quick join, no ability to invite friends or join someone, from what I could tell. As for the actual gameplay it is hard to say how different the actual game will be when it comes out but from what I experienced the game is very similar to Splatoon. It is to the point where you might wonder why they didn’t just call it Splatoon Deluxe, ala Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It does seem like the graphics might have received a minor boost but other than that Splatoon 2 doesn’t offer much extra to its predecessor when it comes to core gameplay. Hopefully we will see a lot more outside of the main gameplay in Splatoon 2 to actually set it apart. I’m sure even if they don’t Splatoon 2 will be a game worth getting for Switch owners just to have another good game for their console.
